More Than a House. A New Beginning.

Every designer has projects that leave a lasting impression.

Not because of the finishes, the furniture or the final photographs but because of the people behind them.

When I learned about the opportunity to help My Friend's House transform one of their transitional homes, I knew I wanted to be involved.

This wasn't just another interior design project. It was an opportunity to create a home for women who have made one of the bravest decisions imaginable: leaving domestic violence behind and choosing a new future for themselves. That kind of courage deserves more than four walls and a roof. It deserves a place that feels safe, peaceful, welcoming, and filled with hope.

Why a Transitional House Matters

For many women, leaving an abusive relationship is only the first step. A transitional house bridges the gap between emergency shelter and independent living. It provides stability during a time when everything else can feel uncertain. It's a place where women can continue rebuilding their confidence, regain their independence, and begin creating a future on their own terms.

The environment they live in matters.

A thoughtfully designed space cannot erase trauma but it can provide comfort. It can create a sense of dignity. It can offer a small reminder that they are worthy of beauty, safety and a fresh start.

As designers, we often talk about how our surroundings affect the way we feel. This project reminded me just how true that really is.

The Power of Community

While I designed this project completely pro bono, there is no way this transformation would have been possible without the incredible generosity of our local community.

Businesses across our region stepped forward without hesitation!

Suppliers donated products.

Materials were supplied at cost.

People gave their time, expertise, and energy simply because they believed in the mission.

Together, we were able to help My Friend's House save more than $45,000. That's not just a number.

That's funding that can now stay where it matters most: supporting women and helping them rebuild their lives.

It was a powerful reminder that when a community comes together, incredible things happen.

A Special Thank You

Working alongside Samantha from My Friend's House was one of the greatest privileges of this project. Her passion, compassion, and determination are impossible to miss. Every decision she makes is centred on creating better outcomes for the women she serves, and it is genuinely inspiring to witness.

The work she and her team do every day changes lives. It was an honour to contribute in a small way to something so much bigger than myself.

Why We Chose to Give Back

People often ask why I take on projects like this.

The answer is simple?

Because good design should never be reserved only for those who can afford it.

Design has the power to influence how we feel every single day. It can calm us, restore us, inspire us and help us believe that better days are ahead.

If I have the skills to create spaces that make people feel safer, more confident, and more at home, then I believe I also have a responsibility to use those skills where they can make the greatest impact. This project reminded me that success isn't measured only by beautiful portfolios or completed homes.

Sometimes success is measured by the difference you make in someone else's life.
